What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise Physiology is the use of clinical exercises to improve how the body responds to physical activity and exercise, as well as using exercise as a method to improve overall health and wellness.

The techniques used by Exercise Physiologists to treat injury can include physical rehabilitation, behavioural coaching, education and counselling.

When should I see an Exercise Physiologist?

Exercise Physiology can be used as treatment for a broad range of health issues related to physical health and function. Typically Exercise Physiology is most relevant when treating patients who have been experiencing ongoing pain or stiffness from sports and physical activities.

Benefits of Exercise Physiology

The severity of the injury will dictate the recovery period, but for common sporting injuries, patients typically notice relief from physical pain within 4 to 6 weeks with a tailored exercise treatment plan.

Correct treatment can also improve the functionality and strength of the affected area of the body which can improve overall performance.

A tailored exercise plan can provide patients with a good understanding of the associated injury, which combined with effective rehabilitation exercises, can assist with minimising the possibility of future injuries which is crucial in gaining confidence in your body to perform.
